The starting question: how much stock?

The owner was interested in a branded retail product for her studio, but even an initial order of 200 pairs felt like a commitment. Before settling on the quantity, the team suggested a custom sample so she could see how members responded to the actual product.

Let the studio guide the design

The first design used a plain sock colour that complemented the studio interior. The logo kept the studio’s existing brand colours, and a printed paper sleeve carried the same identity. The idea was a coherent product that felt familiar to members.

A sample made the decision more tangible

The team shared photographs and video before sending the samples. According to the owner, members took the samples on the morning they arrived. She then confirmed a first order of 300 pairs, above the 200 she had initially considered.

What happened after delivery

For this particular order, production took 18 days, followed by 12 days of DDP air shipping to the UK. The agreed shipping arrangement included customs clearance and import duties and taxes.

Six days after receiving the order, the owner reported that 80 of the original 300 pairs remained. She reordered 1,000 pairs of the same design and later ordered 300 pairs of an additional design developed with the team.

Sample feedback helped the owner make a decision before committing to the first production run.

A collection that continued to develop

The supplied case describes three years of collaboration, with new designs generally ordered each quarter and established designs replenished as needed. The owner described grip socks as the studio’s bestselling retail product.

What to consider for your own studio

Use a sample to review the product with your team. Choose a design connected to your space and members, and plan the quantity around your own retail expectations. Reconfirm production and delivery terms for your destination and schedule.

The customer’s brand is withheld. Stock movements and retail performance are based on customer feedback, not an independently audited sales record. This is one historical project; its sales, production and delivery outcomes are not a promise for other orders.
